In addition to their high-end brake calipers, Beringer also manufactures a range of high-performance floating cast brake discs. These use a grey cast iron braking surface, a material universally used by high-performance disc manufacturers. However, Beringer has developed a chemical composition, casting process and heat treatment to give the discs exceptional performance quality. The specific cast iron structure allows rapid heat dissipation compared with cast iron or stainless steel discs, whilst temperature acceptance is much higher than any other material. In addition, the use of this material allows narrow outer bands, saving up to 20% in weight. The outer cast iron band surface is coated with special aluminium plasma to prevent the disc from corroding and to allow the use of any sintered metal pad. This very thin surface increases braking power by up to 40% and is highly wear resistant to extend its service life. The Classic discs feature drilled cast iron outer bands with a CNC machined aluminium carrier, joined to the outer band with 12 low-friction steel bobbins. The carriers are available in chrome, polished or black anodised. The discs provide excellent braking, whether with organic or sintered pads.
