S&S chr/moly replacement piston ring set. Compatible with all Evolution and pre-Evolution engines equipped with an S&S 3-5/8" big bore kit that have 1/16" (1.5mm) compression rings and a 5/32" (4.2mm) oil ring. Also compatible with 3-5/8" big bore kits from other manufacturers (such as some Axtell kits) that have the same piston grooves.
Standard cylinder bore diameter: 3.625" (92.075mm).
1st ring: 1.5mm (.058").
2nd ring: 1.5mm (.058").
Oil ring: 4.2mm (.155").
Note on compression ring gap: Determining the correct gap on newly fitted piston rings is very important. A gap that is too tight can cause premature wear of the piston rings/cylinder wall or even seizing, possibly breaking the rings and/or damaging the pistons and/or cylinder walls, etc. A piston ring gap that is wider than necessary will result in unnecessary loss of compression and reduced engine efficiency.
The recommended ring clearance is .004" per inch of cylinder bore for street engines. For a 3-5/8" (3.625") bore engine, the piston ring clearance would be 3.625" x .004" = .0145".
(.0145" x 25.4 = 0.3683mm or, rounded, 0.37mm).
