Type 'A'. 0.020" thick fibre, premium high-temperature, high-density, creep-resistant material that requires no re-tightening or additional sealants, petrol-resistant and asbestos-free. OEM replacement reference 16774-84A.
Explanation of Type 'A' (old style) and Type 'B' (new style) gaskets: There are 2 types of cylinder base gaskets available for Evolution models. For convenience, we will refer to them as 'type A' (old) and 'type B' (new).
* The 'Type A' gasket was introduced on the 1984 Evolution Big Twin models, and can be used on all 1984-1999 1340cc Evo models, fitting the contour of the cylinder base perfectly. It fits 1986-2022 Evo XL models, but protrudes at the cylinder base. This can be an issue with silicone-beaded base gaskets.
* The 'Type B' gasket was introduced on Evolution XL Sportster models in 1986, and fits all Evo XL models as well as all 1984-1999 Evo 1340cc models, although the Big Twin cylinder base is slightly larger than the gasket.
The 'type B' is the only gasket type 'The Factory' supplied from 1986 onwards for both the Evo Big Twin and the Evo XL Sportster models.
Both 'A' and 'B' type gaskets have identical inner diameter, oil hole and bolt locations. The gaskets for the front and rear cylinder are identical. The only difference between the 'A' and 'B' gaskets is the outer perimeter.
