An inner primary bearing, which supports the transmission mainshaft, was added to the aluminium primary housing with the introduction of the 1965 Panhead. Before that, the brass housing was used and there was no option to install any aftermarket bearing support to support the main drive gear bushing, which is the cause of mainshaft leaks, worse than with 1965-onwards transmissions.
The Overbearing 2.0 is effectively a hardened version of the stock mainshaft locknut (35211-36), with a precision roller bearing inside. Installing the Overbearing 2.0 keeps the mainshaft and main drive gear concentric, eliminating main drive gear bushing wear, which drastically reduces, if not completely prevents, mainshaft leaks. This narrower 2.0 version is now fully compatible with all stock and aftermarket clutch hubs.
