The external head breathers on H-D models are used to vent crankcase gases out of the engine. These gases consist mainly of air, but also dirty oil, water, etc., and are routed to the air filter to burn off excess oil in the cylinders. Unburnt oil is ready to make a mess and will saturate your air filter element, seeping out of the air filter housing.
This machined aluminium oil catch tank separates the air from the dirty oil and water. The clean air goes into the air filter, the rest goes into the catch tank housing. The tank simply unscrews from the cap for emptying.
