After two years of research, Andrews Products offers its camshafts for the S&S gear drive on Twin Cam. The first advantage is that gear drive uses less engine power than the original chain drive. Dynamometer tests show a 4 horsepower increase. The less force needed for the camshafts, the more horsepower reaches the rear wheel. For Dragsters there is an additional advantage: camshafts with higher valve lift can be used. This requires some explanation. With chain-driven cams, valve lifts of .600 or more will cause interference between the teeth of the front and rear cam sprockets. With gear-driven cams, the tooth ramps are different, thus avoiding interference. These camshafts are for use with the S&S gear drive kits (ZPN 721948).
