OEM style reproduction for original style restorations. Made in USA. OEM replacement for 29975-65B.
Also fits H-D 36-84 when converting to 12 Volts.
Note: When replacing the 65B generator (Hitachi 82-84), add the H-D oil deflector #31035-58 (MCS 555773). The same gear can be reused.
Technical tip for polarising the generator:
With the engine off, connect the 'F' terminal to earth and give a brief positive impulse to the 'A' terminal. Remove the earth from the 'F' terminal. If you have correctly fitted a functional regulator, it will activate and earth the 'F' terminal, in which case it will not be necessary to use an external earth.
Caution: Do not flash the 'F' terminal. This will damage the regulator.
Do not connect the battery to the field (terminal F), as this will polarise the generator in reverse.
Generators in general do not forget their polarisation, so it is not necessary to polarise a Cycle Electric Inc. generator unless it has been connected to the battery in reverse or was incorrectly polarised after leaving the factory. Only after a long period of time can generators have difficulty charging, so polarising them can be a good idea.
Technical advice on the maximum amperage of the generator:
The 12 volt -65A model generator is rated for 10 amperes. It is capable of producing between 25 and 30 amperes. If you draw 20 amperes from a 10 ampere generator, it will burn out in 20 minutes. It is the regulator's job to limit the amperes drawn from the generator to 10 amperes. We recommend testing your regulator when installing a new generator. Also, some regulators do not regulate amperes. These should not be used. All Cycle Electric regulators will guarantee correct amperage regulation.
