It features a classic style bead running front to back. The tank has a 3.3 gallon (12.5L) capacity, is 17" (43 cm) long, 11 1/2" (29 cm) wide, has a 2" (5 cm) low tunnel and a 3/8 NPT right-hand central vent tap opening, and also the correct left and right rear 1/4 NPT fittings. It has universal mounting brackets that make it easy to fit to almost any stock or customised chassis. The Mustang "fluted" fuel tank is available with a threaded filler neck to fit the original or aftermarket vented fuel cap style from 1982 onwards, and is also available complete, with the pop-up style fuel cap. The matching front mudguard design can be found in chapter 18.
