The manufacturer recommends upgrading to the following three-phase charging system on fuel-injected models.
For FLH/FLT '02-'03 see 2112-1820 for the complete upgrade kit.
For FLH/FLT '04-'05, see 2112-1821 for the complete upgrade system.
The standard single-phase alternators on FI models generate an erratic output that overloads the charging system and creates excessive drag on the crankshaft. Upgrading to three-phase offers: smoother output, greater reliability, significantly lower crankshaft losses, greater charging capacity (when upgrading from 38 amp). The upgrade requires replacing the stator, rotor and rectifier regulator as a set.
