Replaces the OEM style 8990/A ball bearing. This bearing is compatible with all models as front and rear outer cam bearings.
In 2001, MoCo redesigned the rear outer Twin Cam cam bearing, moving from ball (OEM 8990/A) to a roller-style (OEM 8983/MCS 921138). This was done to prevent ball bearing failures, specifically in the rear cams (drive side) which carry greater load. The 01-onwards roller-style bearing is a 3-piece design and is stronger than a roller bearing. No other parts were changed during the bearing modification. The 99-00 style ball bearings are compatible with all 99-06 models front and rear. Using front and rear ball bearings presents no issues on the cam gears.
