James RCM gaskets consist of a .020" thick stainless steel base coated with .001" thick heat-resistant Viton rubber on both sides. A very durable gasket that requires no re-torquing. The gaskets do not become brittle or burn.

There are 2 types of cylinder base gaskets available for Evolution models. For convenience we call them 'type A' (old style) and 'type B' (new style).
- 'Type A' gasket: Introduced on the 1984 Evolution Big Twin models, and can be used on all 84-99 Evo 1340cc models, fitting perfectly to the contours of the cylinder base. They fit 86-22 Evo XL models, but protrude at the cylinder base. This can be a problem with silicone-beaded base gaskets.
- 'Type B' gasket: Introduced on Evolution XL Sportster models in 1986, and fits all Evo XL models, as well as all 84-99 Evo 1340cc models, although the Big Twin cylinder base is slightly larger than the gasket.
The 'type B' is the only gasket type that 'The Factory' supplied from 1986 onwards for the Evo Big Twin and Evo XL Sportster models.
Both the 'A' type and the 'B' type have identical inner diameter, oil hole and bolt locations. The gaskets for the front and rear cylinder are identical. The only difference between the 'A' and 'B' gaskets is the outer perimeter.
