"Smart Ass" right-side drive conversion kits by Zodiac - RSD for builders, Series 300

Unlimited growth in rear tyre width has pushed custom motorcycle builders to the limits of primary drive displacement on existing frames. Our 55mm offset kit represents the practical limit; extending the main shaft further would impose excessive stress on it. Tyres up to 330mm require a different approach. We believe it is better to retain the primary drive in its original position and relocate the transmission to the right-hand side. Zodiac developed a right-hand transmission and swingarm conversion kit, allowing the installation of a 300 or 330 tyre on an original Evolution or Twin Cam frame. We offer two economical solutions: the LD (Left Drive) conversion kit, which utilises many original components, and the LD builder kit. The conversion kit includes only the parts necessary to convert your original gearbox to a right-hand drive configuration. It comprises: a main shaft, a countershaft, a shift drum, and forks. It also includes a billet aluminium cover providing space for the main sprocket. To prevent any unwanted load on the gearbox casing, the cover is designed to be secured to both the frame’s downtube and the swingarm pivot. To reinforce the transmission, the 5th gear is now an integral part of the countershaft. The kit is completed with all necessary mounting hardware, new seals, and gaskets. Some builders wish to replace their old sprockets; for them, we offer a complete builder kit. This kit comes with sprockets and shafts pre-installed in the cover and includes all internal components, suitable for use in either an old or new gearbox. All conversion and builder kits utilise a special clutch actuator cover, available separately, as options exist for cable-operated or hydraulic clutches. The cable system works with the original cable, while the hydraulic system requires an 11/16" master cylinder. Original-style and custom master cylinders are available in the handlebar controls section. Kits for tyres up to 300mm include a conversion or builder kit, an untreated steel belt cover, a TIG-welded swingarm, a stainless steel mudguard plate, and the rear axle. Kits for tyres up to 330mm also include an offset front sprocket, an extended clutch rod, and a spacer for the clutch actuator cover. For those wishing to use a wide wheel with a 1" bearing, ZPN 735416 and ZPN 735417 bushes are available. An untreated steel RSD belt cover is available separately.
 
 Note: Installation on Softail "Deuce" models requires some chassis and swingarm modification.
