RED SHIFT TWO-PISTON CAM CHAIN TENSIONERS

Red Shift twin-piston cam chain tensioners, an essential tool for 2006 Dyna models and all 2007 to present Twin Cam models, for performance applications. These tensioners improve cam timing precision and valve train control in two critical main areas: the drive unit and the cam chains. The twin-piston design is simple and effective, and it is easy to see why it works. When the Twin Cam engine is running, the power pulses move the tensioner shoe back and forth. In the original single-piston tensioner, the natural movement of the shoe causes the hydraulic piston to be momentarily displaced from its seat, interrupting the pressurised oil flow and allowing air into the hydraulic tensioner. The air reduces or eliminates the pressure that the shoe tensioner applies to the cam drive chains, resulting in loss of valve train control that leads to "bouncing" components including valves, spring retainers, rocker arms, pushrods, lifters and camshafts. The twin-piston cam chain tensioners restore critical camshaft timing events for both cylinders, improve throttle response, acceleration and smoothness, and increase power and torque across the rev range.
