There are no other differences between the standard Powerglide and the Steady Roll Powerglide tappets. The full contact of the bush provides greater stability, extended service life, and quieter operation thanks to the tighter tolerances enabled by this design. The main drawback of a worn needle bearing is that it eventually fails, scattering steel needles throughout the engine. This problem no longer exists. Even when the Steady Roll bronze bush wears, the design remains safe. Like all other Jims Powerglide™ tappets, this Steady Roll version offers superior hydraulic operation compared to OEM-style units, featuring a forged steel body with a hand-ground hydraulic cavity and an oil-fed shaft. To achieve maximum power, you must have zero valve clearance and eliminate hydraulic unit collapse, as occurs in the OEM unit, also known as the "damper syndrome". Failing to keep the valve open throughout the entire stroke results in power loss. Jims Powerglide tappets come as close as possible to a solid tappet, yet still compensate for thermal expansion. They perform well even with solid-style camshafts. Fits as an enhanced, oversized version of the OEM 18538-99C Standard and 17900022A High Capacity.
