Chrome. Primary resistance 3.0 Ohm, secondary resistance 15,000 Ohm. Primary inductance 16 MHY, secondary inductance 42 HY, capable of generating a +40,000V output on each side. Brass terminals for primary and high tension. The cooling fins on the housing provide additional cooling for the core.
Note: Difference between Dual and Single Fire ignition:
- Dual Fire - This is the operating system of earlier engines, prior to Twin Cam. A single coil is used and both spark plugs fire simultaneously. It is the simplest system. The "wasted" spark is said to slightly reduce power.
- Single Fire - This is the operating system of the stock Twin Cam engines from 2000 onwards. Two independent coils fire the spark plugs individually, with only the spark plug of the cylinder on the compression stroke being activated. These engines are said to vibrate less and can improve power. The effects will be more noticeable with more aggressive camshafts and at higher RPM.
