Alternator rotor / clutch housing and sprocket assembly

OEM style alternator rotor / clutch shell with primary chain sprocket. Incl. ball bearing. The magnets are encapsulated in a stainless steel housing. This helps prevent the magnets from coming loose, which frequently occurs with OEM equipment. OEM replacement reference 36791-84.
Note: The replacement clutch hub ball bearing is available separately as 556626/36799-84.
TECH TIP: On XL Sportster L84-90 the alternator is mounted in the clutch hub. This was a poor design. Excess play between the clutch hub bearing, the mainshaft ball bearing and the needle bearing between the two transmission shaft parts allows the clutch hub to tilt sideways, just enough for there to be contact between the stator and the clutch hub. Sometimes the stator and/or clutch hub is machined down, but this is not recommended by MCS, to add clearance which reduces output. Better to install new bearings. From 1991 onwards the alternator was moved and the rotor spins on the pinion shaft. This solved the problem.
