S&S, flywheel assembly for 124" T-series engines, 4-1/8" diameter

4-5/8" stroke with 8-1/2" diameter flywheels. Balanced to a total piston weight of 1035 grams. Stock replacement for S&S engines, custom for OEM engines. No hassle when reconditioning or sourcing the correct parts, everything is included in a single package. These are set up exactly the same as the flywheels used in current production S&S engines.
Note: Engines with strokes over 4" may require S&S piston lubrication jets and clearance notches between the piston and the jet in the piston skirt to avoid contact.
Note: S&S flywheel assemblies allow the use of replaceable bearing races at the bottom of the connecting rods. The first generation of S&S flywheel assemblies, in use until 2012, had a 1.500" diameter. The second generation, in use since 2013, has the larger 1.671" OEM diameter. S&S and OEM flywheels now have the same diameter, so S&S parts can be used to recondition standard H-D flywheels, something that was previously not possible as H-D reconditioning parts were not available and still are not.
Note: The following applies to 03-17 models. S&S designed these flywheels to work with a Timken-style pinion shaft bearing; they fit 99-02 factory models and all S&S crankcases without modifications. Factory H-D Twin Cam engines from 03-17 use the same pinion shaft roller bearing as is used on the wheel axle, a cheaper but less strong solution. It is possible to use the weaker factory 03-17 wheel axle bearing kit (OEM H-D 24004-03B) with S&S flywheels in factory 03-17 crankcases. However, S&S believes this roller bearing will not withstand the side loads produced in a high-performance engine. S&S will not honour any warranty claim in an application where the roller bearing-style wheel axle bearing assembly OEM 24004-03B/24605-07 03-17 is used. To upgrade to the pre-2003 pinion shaft bearing style, the MCS 978517 JIMS conversion tool kit is available. This kit includes one tool, one Timken bearing and one steel crankcase bearing insert for one engine. Bearing inserts are available separately as 978519, and bearings separately as 508960.
Note: In all applications, the technician must be able to assess the components to determine their suitability in combination with the other engine components, prior to installation. It is important that a qualified mechanic installs them and makes the necessary adjustments.
