S&S Superstock™ oil pans, manufactured from 356-T6 aluminium, are significantly stronger than the OEM oil pan. OEM oil pans can fracture in high-performance applications or even in standard applications, as we have discovered to our own detriment. These S&S Superstock™ oil pans can be used for both standard replacement and competition purposes. For the engine builder, the considerable labour savings achieved by using S&S oil pans are an important consideration. These oil pans arrive ‘prepared’ with Timken main bearings for the drive shaft installed and needle bearings for the camshaft fitted, in addition to the press-fit and in-line ground main bearing seat for the pinion shaft. Additional parts included are: Timken drive shaft bearings, cylinder studs, nickel-plated oil pan bolts, oil pan fittings, oil pressure sensor, timed and magnetic oil pan drain plugs, and a special S&S clamp bolt for the alternator stator. The flywheel scrapers are machined to fit original 8-1/2" diameter flywheels. S&S oil pans maximise oil suction efficiency via a ‘ported’ breather duct. S&S oil pans provide clearance for cylinders up to 5" in diameter, requiring no additional machining for long-stroke crankshafts. S&S oil pans are supplied complete with assembly instructions.
Note: S&S crankcases for 36-54 Knuckle and Panhead models do not accept OEM flywheels, pinion shaft or sprocket shaft, as late-style (1955 onwards) Timken bearings are used in all S&S crankcases. The 55-on shafts do not fit 36-54 OEM flywheels; S&S does not recommend machining 36-54 flywheels to accept 55-on shafts. For all 36-55 B.T. applications, pinion shafts 58-81 (MCS 512404) and splined sprocket shafts 55-64 (MCS 512401) may be used with S&S flywheels (all with 6° shaft taper and keyway).
Note: The 36-72 (MCS 519922) S&S oil pump can be used with all 36-69 S&S crankcases.
Note: In any application, the technician must be able to assess the suitability of the components in combination with the other engine components before assembly. It is important that a qualified mechanic carries out the installation and any necessary adjustments.
